LC-TEC AUTOMATION
AB (formally Hörnell Automation AB) was formed in 1988
to develop & manufacture equipment for LCD-production. LC-TEC DISPLAYS
AB (formally Hörnell Innovation AB) was formed in 1992 to carry out
R&D work in the field of liquid crystal displays & liquid crystal
optical shutters.
In 1994, LC-TEC HOLDING AB acquired both LC-TEC AUTOMATION AB and LC-TEC DISPLAYS AB. In
1995, LC-TEC HOLDING AB completed the installation of a smaller LCD
production-line in Borlänge, Sweden. In 1998, this LCD production-line was
sold to 3M (formally Hörnell International AB) and LC-TEC HOLDING AB started
the installation of a new, second generation, STN-LCD production-line (fully
automatic) at the Borlänge facilities in Sweden. The
second-generation STN-line started full operation in the autumn of 2000.
In 2003, LC-TEC HOLDING AB acquired LightSpace Technologies Inc, USA, which manufactures &
supplies true 3D-monitors (volumetric displays). The liquid crystal
optical shutters (light valves) that are manufactured by LC-TEC DISPLAYS
AB are a key component in the 3D-monitor product.
At the beginning of
2004, LC-TEC AUTOMATION AB was
sold to Hörnell Teknikinvest AB and
LC-TEC HOLDING AB focused on the activities of both LC-TEC DISPLAYS
AB and LightSpace Technologies, Inc. in the USA. However,
in 2007 LC-TEC HOLDING AB re-purchased the company LC-TEC AUTOMATION
AB again from Hörnell Teknikinvest AB together with the
subsidiary companies LC-TEC ASIA & ECSIBEO AB from Gothenburg,
Sweden.
LC-TEC HOLDING AB currently comprises of three (3) main business areas;
(a) LC-TEC DISPLAYS AB in Sweden, (b) LC-TEC ASIA in China, and (c)
LC-TEC VENTURE in both the USA & Gothenburg, Sweden.
The
major
share-holders of LC-TEC HOLDING AB are currently Mr. Åke
Hörnell, who owns approximately
66%, either directly or via the company Hörnell Teknikinvest AB and
Chalmers Teknikinvest AB who currently own approximately 10%.
LC-TEC HOLDING AB is listed on the NGM Nordic MTF stock market in
Stockholm, Sweden. There are currently approximately 900 share-holders in
LC-TEC HOLDING AB.
